Nelson is the 5th generation in his family’s firm, acting as Principal overseeing key strategic initiatives for the firm while still serving key client relationships. Whether diving into financial planning engagements or simply helping a client review their risk management strategies, Nelson helps add clarity to each client’s objectives and align them with the resources for accomplishing their goals with a focus on less risk, more efficiency and less tax. He holds his Series 6, 7, 63 and 65 securities licenses. He is a Dallas native, graduating from Cistercian Preparatory School and Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and Marketing.
Truth be told, Nelson is a bit of a neat freak, always organizing things into a better, more clear reality. That is likely what makes him enjoy financial planning so much...planning is never done, only ongoing towards evolving goals and desires. Everyone’s life and goals are unique, but we all find ourselves running out of time and resources long before running out of ideas and opportunities to pursue. Nelson enjoys helping clients identify their non-negotiables and focus their talents, time and treasure towards those important things!
When he is not working, he is likely enjoying time with his wife Ali and their three children. His most favorite time is spent in the outdoors hunting and fishing. His least favorite time of the day is the 15 minute debate within his family of where to eat dinner!
Matt joined Wood Legacy Group in 2023 to lead the Investment & Wealth Management part of our practice. Matt holds his Series 7 and 66 securities license, his Group 1 insurance license, and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification. CFP professionals meet rigorous education, training, and ethical standards, and are committed to serving their clients' best interests today to prepare them for a more secure tomorrow.
Matt grew up in Richardson, Tx and went to Ouachita Baptist University to play baseball and study Finance and Marketing, in that order.
After a summer internship in 2005 with a large financial services firm, Matt realized this could be his calling if he didn’t end up playing Major Leage Baseball. A week after graduation in 2007 he found himself in the office bullpen with the other rookie financial advisors. As it turns out, financial planning and baseball have a lot in common. Just like a team has a roster of players with differing skillsets working towards a common goal, Planning allows us to utilize differing strategies to align with a client's purpose and vision.
If you can’t reach him in the office, he’s likely spending time with his wife, Jessica, and their 3 children. And between being a husband, father, and advisor he tries to make time for running and golf as often as he can.
